The problem it's solving

Anyone who owns a S'well bottle knows the drill: you pour in ice from a standard tray, two cubes tumble in, the rest pile up at the opening and you shove them through like you're loading a ship in a bottle. It works, technically, but it's annoying. The Super Chill Ice Tray is S'well's answer to that — a tray that makes ice in a curved spear shape specifically sized to slip down the neck of their bottles without a fight.

It's a small fix. But small fixes for daily-use objects are the ones that actually improve your life.

What it does well

The S-shape is the whole idea here, and it works. The spears are slender enough to clear the bottle opening without forcing, and because they're longer than a standard cube they take up more of the interior volume — which means they stay in contact with your drink longer and melt more slowly. The net effect is that your water or iced coffee stays colder longer compared to struggling three regular cubes through the neck. S'well's double-walled insulation does most of the heavy lifting, but this adds meaningful time.

At $13, it's the kind of accessory you buy once and forget about — low enough that it doesn't require deliberation, and it will outlast however many S'well bottles you go through.

The honest caveats

This is an extremely purpose-built object. The S-shape isn't a universal silicone tray with bonus versatility — it was designed around S'well's bottle dimensions. If you mostly drink from wide-mouth tumblers, a Hydro Flask, a Stanley, or basically anything that isn't a S'well narrow-mouth bottle, these spears offer no advantage over whatever you're already doing. Regular cube trays make better ice for cocktails, coolers, and glasses.

Also worth saying: you will need to plan ahead. Ice trays require freeze time, which is obvious, but if you're the kind of person who grabs their bottle on the way out the door without thinking about it the night before, you'll find yourself using the tray inconsistently. That's not a knock on the product — it's just the nature of ice.

We don't know what material the tray is made from (S'well hasn't published this), so if that matters to you — BPA-free status, flexibility for easy release — worth confirming with S'well customer service before buying.

Who it's actually for

The core customer is someone who already loves their S'well bottle, uses it every day, and has thought at least once about the ice problem. That's a narrow group, but within that group this is an easy yes. It's also the kind of thing that makes a thoughtful gift when bundled with a S'well bottle — the tray plus the bottle together is a complete system in a way neither is on its own.

Bottom line

Not a must-have for everyone, but exactly right for who it's for. S'well identified a real friction point in their own product experience and solved it for $13. That's good design thinking.
