What it actually is

Before anything else: this is a lid, not a bottle. If you already own a S'well in the 9oz or 17oz size and keep reaching for a cheaper bottle during workouts because the standard S'well cap requires two hands and a pause, this is the fix. The Sport Cap replaces your existing lid with a hinged pop-top that you can open with a thumb flick and drink from without tilting the bottle to a 45-degree angle.

The case for upgrading

S'well bottles are genuinely excellent — the insulation is real, the build quality holds up, and the finish doesn't chip the way cheaper bottles do. The standard screw-top lid is fine for commuting or desk use, but it's a friction point the moment you're on a bike, in a spin class, or mid-set at the gym. You have to stop, unscrew, drink, rescrew. The Sport Cap eliminates all of that. Pop it open, sip, it closes when you're done. The splash-free claim holds up during movement — you're not going to soak your shirt reaching for a drink.

Who it's for, exactly

We keep one on a 17oz S'well that lives in a gym bag. The 9oz version makes sense for shorter runs or kids' sports bags where a full-size bottle is overkill. If you're someone who prefers a straw top, this won't convert you — the Sport Cap is a direct-sip pop top, not a straw mechanism.

The honest caveats

At $11 it's a reasonable ask, but it only fits two bottle sizes, so confirm yours before ordering. S'well's lineup has expanded considerably, and not every bottle in the range accepts this cap. The standard warranty and insulation performance of your bottle don't change — this is purely a convenience upgrade to the drinking interface.

We'd also note that the pop-top lid style, while great for workouts, isn't the right choice for a bag with no dedicated bottle pocket. A stray thumb can pop it open. If your bottle lives loose in a backpack, the standard screw-top is actually safer.

Bottom line

For S'well owners who've been quietly annoyed by the stock lid during exercise, this is a no-brainer upgrade. It won't make a mediocre bottle great, but it removes the one genuine friction point from a bottle that's otherwise excellent.
