S'well built its name on stainless steel water bottles, so when the brand extended into food storage with the Eats line, it leaned into a system play: prep bowls that nest inside serving bowls, stacking neatly so you can prep, stack, grab, and eat without reaching for multiple containers. That's the idea, and it mostly works.

The bowls are Tritan — the same shatter-resistant, clarity-holding plastic used in high-end water bottles and barware. It doesn't hold odors the way cheaper plastics do, and after repeated dishwasher cycles it stays clear rather than clouding. For food storage, that matters: you can actually see what's inside.

What the measurements actually do

The interior measurement markings are a small but real upgrade over plain prep bowls. If you're portioning grains, soaking nuts, or staging sauces for a recipe, being able to eyeball 8oz without hunting for a measuring cup saves a step. They're not precise enough to replace actual measuring cups for baking, but for the kind of rough portioning that weeknight meal prep requires, they're plenty useful.

The system lock-in question

Here's the thing worth saying plainly: these bowls are designed to nest inside S'well's 21.5oz Eats food bowls. If you already own — or plan to own — those larger containers, the nesting design is genuinely clever and the 14oz size makes sense as a staging vessel inside a bigger carry container. If you don't have the Eats bowls and aren't planning to get them, you're buying a four-pack of modestly sized Tritan bowls for $28, and there are capable alternatives at lower price points.

Size reality check

At 14oz, each bowl holds roughly a cup and three-quarters. That's enough for a full serving of cut fruit, a grain side, or a measured protein portion — but not enough for a large salad or a full meal for most adults. We'd think of these as staging and portioning vessels, not primary meal containers. If you're doing a big Sunday prep for the week, you'll likely use all four simultaneously for different components of a single meal, which is exactly the use case they're built for.

Materials and safety

Tritan is BPA- and BPS-free, which matters if you're reheating food in the container — and these are microwave-safe. Freezer-safe too, so you can prep ahead and freeze individual portions. The dishwasher safety is genuine (top-rack caution is a good habit regardless, though the brand doesn't specify).

The price question

Twenty-eight dollars for four plastic prep bowls is a premium. You're paying for the S'well brand, the Tritan quality, and the system integration. If those things align with how you use your kitchen, it's defensible. If you just need small bowls to hold mise en place while you cook, a set of glass pinch bowls from a restaurant supply store will serve you better for less.
