Frequent home entertainers who are tired of mopping up condensation rings and want barware that looks considered, not grabbed at the last minute.

You host once or twice a year and a basic acrylic bucket already does the job — the $56 premium only earns back with regular use.

The verdict
S'well's vacuum-insulated ice bucket is the rare host gift that actually earns its $56: ice stays frozen for hours without leaving a ring on your table, and the included tongs tuck neatly into the lid so you're never fishing around for them mid-party.
What we love
- Vacuum insulation eliminates condensation — no wet rings on tables or countertops
- Keeps ice frozen significantly longer than uninsulated buckets
- Tongs store in the lid notch, so they're always where you need them
- Doubles as a wine chiller for a standard bottle
- 18/8 food-grade stainless with no BPA/BPS — built to last
Worth knowing
- Hand-wash only — no dishwasher shortcut after a long night
- $56 is a real commitment for something a cheaper bucket technically does
- At 1.77 lb empty, heavier than a basic acrylic or plastic alternative
- 2L capacity may not stretch far enough for larger gatherings
Our review
The problem with most ice buckets
Most ice buckets are either a cheap plastic shell that sweats through your tablecloth in twenty minutes, or a heavy silver-plate thing your grandmother owns that looks beautiful and does roughly the same. S'well, a brand that made its name on water bottles that actually keep drinks cold all day, applied the same triple-layered vacuum insulation to an ice bucket — and the result is genuinely better than what most people have at home.
How it works
The Therma-S'well® construction is the same technology in their bottles: three walls of 18/8 stainless steel with a vacuum sealed between them. Heat transfer slows dramatically, which means the ice melts slower and the outside of the bucket stays dry. In practice, we set ours out for a three-hour dinner party in a warm kitchen and never once reached for a dish towel to blot condensation. The surface just... didn't sweat. That alone is worth something.
Capacity is 2 liters (68 oz), which translates to a full bag of cocktail ice with room to spare — enough for four to six people over a couple of hours. It's also sized to fit a standard wine bottle upright, which makes it a solid substitute for a proper wine chiller if you don't own one. We've used it both ways and it handles either job cleanly.
The lid and tongs situation
The stainless steel lid has a notched cutout sized for the included tongs, so they rest right there in the cover rather than rolling off the counter or getting buried in a drawer. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of detail that makes you realize how many ice buckets don't bother. The tongs themselves are simple and effective — no complaints.
What gives us pause
At 1.77 pounds empty, this is not a lightweight piece. It's not uncomfortable to carry, but it's noticeably heftier than a basic acrylic bucket, and once it's loaded with ice it stays where you put it. Fine for a countertop or bar cart; slightly awkward if you're moving it around a lot.
Hand-wash only is the other reality check. With vacuum-insulated stainless, dishwashers can compromise the seal over time, so the restriction makes sense — but it's still an extra step after a party when you'd rather just run everything through the machine.
And $56 is real money for an ice bucket. It's not expensive by the standards of barware that's actually well-made, but it's a meaningful spend, and if you're entertaining casually once or twice a year a $15 acrylic bucket does the same job with less to lose.
The Angel Food colorway
The Angel Food finish is a soft, matte off-white that photographs well and reads as quietly expensive on a table — not the brushed-silver utility look that most stainless barware goes for. It's available in other finishes too, so if your bar cart runs cooler or warmer you have options.
Bottom line
This is the ice bucket for people who have killed enough tablecloths and want to stop thinking about it. The no-sweat promise holds, the tongs are right where you need them, and the wine-bottle trick is genuinely useful. It's not cheap and it's not for the occasional entertainer, but if you host regularly, it pays for itself in aggravation avoided.
Common questions
Ice Bucket + Tongs, answered
How long does the S'well ice bucket keep ice frozen?
S'well doesn't publish an exact hour claim, and real-world results vary with ambient temperature and how often you lift the lid. In our experience, expect meaningfully slower melt than an uninsulated bucket — enough for a 3-hour dinner party without refilling. Don't expect the ice to last overnight.
Will a wine bottle fit in the S'well ice bucket?
Yes — S'well confirms it fits a standard 750ml wine bottle upright, making it a functional wine chiller as well as an ice bucket.
Can the S'well ice bucket go in the dishwasher?
No. S'well specifies hand-wash only. The dishwasher's heat and pressure can degrade the vacuum seal that makes the insulation work.
Does the S'well ice bucket sweat or leave water rings?
No — that's the main selling point. The triple-layer vacuum insulation keeps the outer wall from reaching the dew point, so the surface stays dry even in a warm room.
Is the S'well ice bucket worth it vs. a cheaper alternative?
If you entertain often, yes. The no-sweat construction, included tongs, and durable 18/8 stainless justify the price over years of use. If you host occasionally, a $15 acrylic bucket performs the same core function.
What is the capacity of the S'well ice bucket?
It holds 2 liters (68 oz) of ice, which is enough for four to six people over a few hours of moderate use.
