What it is

Proviz built its reputation on one insight: most outdoor gear treats visibility as an afterthought. A strip of reflective piping on a dark jacket doesn't cut it when you're running or cycling home after dark. The Reflective Waterproof Jacket 2.0 goes the other direction — the entire outer shell is reflective material. In daylight it reads as a silver-gray; hit it with a car's headlights and it lights up completely. That's not a marketing claim — it's backed by CE EN 20471 certification, the European safety standard for high-visibility clothing.

The waterproofing

At 10,000mm hydrostatic head, this jacket handles steady rain without complaint. That rating puts it comfortably above the threshold for moderate to heavy rain (anything above 5,000mm is considered truly waterproof), though if you're regularly running through full downpours or trail running in the Scottish Highlands, you'd want to step up to a 20,000mm shell. For commuters, urban runners, cyclists, and dog walkers caught in typical wet-weather conditions, 10,000mm plus seam-sealing is genuinely sufficient. The storm zip and velcro cuffs close off the obvious leak points, and we appreciate that Proviz bothered with both.

Fit and comfort details

The fleece-lined collar is a small thing that makes a real difference — no chafing on bare skin when the hood is down, and it adds a little insulation at the neck where you actually feel the cold. The adjustable waistband lets you cinch it for a cleaner silhouette or leave it loose over layers. The mesh lining inside breathes reasonably well for a sealed shell, though this isn't a technical mountaineering layer — expect some warmth buildup during high-output activity.

At approximately 500 grams, it's not an ultralight packable, but it's not heavy either. Think of it as a proper jacket you grab before heading out, not something you stuff in a race vest.

Pockets

Three in total: a chest pocket sized to fit modern smartphones (including larger Plus/Pro Max sizes, per Proviz), plus two side pockets. All have zip pulls — cold-fingers-friendly. We'd have liked the side pockets to be waterproof-zipped like the chest, but they're protected enough for most conditions.

The one thing it doesn't do

It's not a layering piece designed to sit under a shell — it IS the shell. If you run cold and want insulation underneath, size up. The interior mesh lining offers comfort, not warmth.

Care

Machine washable is genuinely welcome for a jacket this technical. Follow Proviz's wash guidance (gentle cycle, no fabric softener, which clogs DWR coatings) and the waterproofing holds.

Bottom line

At $79.99, the Proviz 2.0 is priced like a solid rain jacket and then adds full-shell reflectivity for free. If you move through low-light or night conditions regularly — any conditions where being seen matters — there isn't a better-value jacket in this category.
