The problem it solves

Most reflective running gear is an afterthought — a strip of tape on a jacket sleeve, a single blinky patch. Proviz builds the reflectivity into the yarn itself, so the entire outer surface of this beanie catches headlights from any angle. That matters when you're crossing a street at 6 a.m. in December or finishing a trail run after the light goes. We've tested a lot of high-vis accessories, and few are as effortless about it as this one.

What REFLECT360 actually means

Reflect360 is Proviz's proprietary reflective yarn technology — instead of a coating or a printed strip, the reflective particles are woven into the acrylic/polyester fiber. The result is a hat that looks like an ordinary heathered grey in daylight and becomes a lit-up silver orb when a car's headlights hit it. It works from the sides and back, not just head-on. For night running, that omnidirectional quality is the whole point.

Warmth and wearability

The fleece lining is where the real daily-wear case lives. It's soft against the ears and forehead — no scratching, no repositioning mid-run — and it adds a meaningful layer of insulation without making the hat feel thick or heavy (the whole thing weighs 0.22 lb). The outer acrylic/polyester knit has enough stretch to pull down over your ears comfortably. It fits most adult heads, though "one size fits all" always means some compromise: if you have a larger head, the hat may ride a little high. Smaller heads might find it slightly loose.

The bobble on top is a classic runner's beanie choice — it adds a touch of personality and doesn't get in the way once it's on. That said, if you're wearing this under a bike helmet regularly, the bobble will create an uncomfortable pressure point. Helmet wearers are better served by a cuffed, bobble-free option.

Honest limitations

This is a fleece-lined acrylic hat, not a technical merino piece. At an easy to moderate running pace in the 30s (°F), it works great. Push into a harder tempo or a warmish winter day and you'll feel it trap heat — acrylic doesn't breathe or manage odor the way wool does, so frequent washing will be part of your routine. The good news: it's fully machine washable, which most reflective gear isn't, because the coating often degrades in the wash. Since the reflectivity here is in the yarn, it survives the laundry.

The color selection is grey and grey only, as far as the specs indicate. That's fine for visibility purposes, but it's not a statement piece.

The value question
