The Lausanne is a sourced estate piece — meaning it existed before Aurate got to it, lived a prior life on someone else's wrist, and was then vetted by Louis Martin Jewelers, the Manhattan institution that has been authenticating and servicing watches since 1978. That distinction matters. You're buying history with paperwork, not nostalgia with a marketing budget.

The watch is a bangle style — a rigid bracelet with the watch face integrated — in yellow vermeil. At 6 inches, it sits tight on most wrists without sliding, which is the whole point of the bangle format. The 0.07-lb weight is genuinely light for a metal piece, which makes it easy to wear all day without that fatigue you get from a chunkier cuff.

The case for spending $768 on this

Vintage bangle watches are among the harder things to find in good condition. The movement has to still run, the bracelet can't be stretched or bent out of round, the dial has to be legible. Most estate pieces that check all three boxes get absorbed into private collections or auction houses before they reach the general market. Aurate and Louis Martin are doing the sourcing work for you — and backing it with authentication.

At $768, you're paying for that curation and provenance. Compare that to buying blind at an estate sale, where an uncertified vintage watch of similar character might run $400–600 before you pay a watchmaker another $150–300 to service and authenticate it. The math is closer than it looks.

Shopping vintage is also, by any honest accounting, the most sustainable way to acquire fine jewelry and watches. No new mining, no new manufacturing — just an extraordinary object getting a second life.

What gives us pause

This is final sale. That policy is standard for authenticated vintage pieces — Louis Martin can't take back something that's been worn — but it means you need to be certain before you click through. The 6-inch size is fixed; bangle watches can't be resized the way a chain bracelet can. If your wrist runs larger than 6 inches, this isn't the one.

Vermeil, for those unfamiliar, is gold over sterling silver — not solid gold. At this price point, some buyers expect solid gold. If that matters to you, it's worth knowing upfront rather than discovering after.
