The verdict
A genuinely one-of-a-kind vintage bangle watch, authenticated by Louis Martin Jewelers — one of New York's most respected names in estate timepieces since 1978 — at a price that buys real provenance, not just an aesthetic.
What we love
- Authenticated by Louis Martin Jewelers, a New York institution in estate watches since 1978 — real provenance, not marketing
- Genuinely one-of-a-kind; you're not wearing something mass-produced
- Lightweight (0.07 lb) for all-day wear without fatigue
- Shopping vintage is the most sustainable option in fine jewelry
- Curated by experts who checked the movement, condition, and authenticity before it reached you
Worth knowing
- Final sale — no returns or exchanges, which demands real certainty before buying
- Fixed 6-inch bangle size cannot be adjusted; won't fit larger wrists
- Vermeil, not solid gold — a meaningful distinction at this price point
- Not covered by Aurate's lifetime warranty; service goes through Louis Martin directly
Our review
What it actually is
This isn't Aurate selling you something they made to look vintage. The Lausanne is a sourced estate piece — meaning it existed before Aurate got to it, lived a prior life on someone else's wrist, and was then vetted by Louis Martin Jewelers, the Manhattan institution that has been authenticating and servicing watches since 1978. That distinction matters. You're buying history with paperwork, not nostalgia with a marketing budget.
The watch is a bangle style — a rigid bracelet with the watch face integrated — in yellow vermeil. At 6 inches, it sits tight on most wrists without sliding, which is the whole point of the bangle format. The 0.07-lb weight is genuinely light for a metal piece, which makes it easy to wear all day without that fatigue you get from a chunkier cuff.
The case for spending $768 on this
Vintage bangle watches are among the harder things to find in good condition. The movement has to still run, the bracelet can't be stretched or bent out of round, the dial has to be legible. Most estate pieces that check all three boxes get absorbed into private collections or auction houses before they reach the general market. Aurate and Louis Martin are doing the sourcing work for you — and backing it with authentication.
At $768, you're paying for that curation and provenance. Compare that to buying blind at an estate sale, where an uncertified vintage watch of similar character might run $400–600 before you pay a watchmaker another $150–300 to service and authenticate it. The math is closer than it looks.
Shopping vintage is also, by any honest accounting, the most sustainable way to acquire fine jewelry and watches. No new mining, no new manufacturing — just an extraordinary object getting a second life.
What gives us pause
This is final sale. That policy is standard for authenticated vintage pieces — Louis Martin can't take back something that's been worn — but it means you need to be certain before you click through. The 6-inch size is fixed; bangle watches can't be resized the way a chain bracelet can. If your wrist runs larger than 6 inches, this isn't the one.
Vermeil, for those unfamiliar, is gold over sterling silver — not solid gold. At this price point, some buyers expect solid gold. If that matters to you, it's worth knowing upfront rather than discovering after.
Aurate's famous lifetime warranty does not cover this piece. Warranty service goes through Louis Martin's watch department directly (212-245-5566), which is actually a reasonable arrangement — a specialist watchmaker is the right place for a vintage movement anyway — but it's a different experience than Aurate's usual customer service flow.
One-of-a-kind, for real
Because this is a vintage sourced piece and not a production item, when it's gone, it's gone. Aurate won't restock it. If you find yourself thinking about it later, the answer will simply be that it no longer exists for sale. That's the honest downside of the vintage model — and the honest upside, since no one else is wearing yours.
Common questions
Vintage Lausanne Bangle Watch, answered
Is the Aurate vintage watch covered by Aurate's lifetime warranty?
No. Vintage pieces are final sale and excluded from Aurate's standard lifetime warranty. For service or warranty inquiries on this watch, contact Louis Martin's watch department at 212-245-5566.
What does vermeil mean on a watch?
Vermeil is a thick layer of gold plated over sterling silver. It looks like solid gold but is not — the base metal is silver. It's more durable than gold-filled and regulated by the FTC to a minimum gold thickness, but it will wear differently than solid gold over decades.
What wrist size fits a 6-inch bangle watch?
A 6-inch bangle is designed for a wrist that measures roughly 5.5 to 6 inches in circumference. Bangle-style watches cannot be resized, so measure your wrist before purchasing.
Who is Louis Martin Jewelers?
Louis Martin Jewelers is a New York City estate jewelry and watch dealer operating since 1978, specializing in authenticating and servicing vintage timepieces. Aurate partnered with them specifically to source and verify this vintage collection.
Can I return an Aurate vintage watch if it doesn't fit?
No. All vintage pieces in Aurate's curated collection are final sale. Measure your wrist carefully and review the 6-inch size specification before buying.
Is a vintage bangle watch a good investment?
Authenticated vintage watches from reputable estate dealers tend to hold value better than mass-produced fashion watches, but no retail purchase is a guaranteed investment. The stronger case here is that it's a one-of-a-kind object with documented provenance — which is rarer and harder to replicate than any new production piece.
